The 2013 BCS and Computing UK IT Industry Awards open for entries today - and this year includes a brand new category for the most outstanding use of IT in the games, television, film, music or other creative industry

The annual Awards are renowned as the Oscars for the IT profession, providing a platform to showcase and celebrate best practice, innovation and excellence. Entrants can be organisations or individuals involved in IT across the public, not for profit and commercial sectors.

David Clarke, MBE, Group Chief Executive Officer of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, explains:"I'm particularly excited about the new category we're introducing to the UK IT Awards this year. I hope it will attract entries from some of the many talented creative organisations we have in the UK. The contribution made by our creative industry is really important to our economy and the addition of this new category reflects the ever changing nature of the IT profession."

In total there are 25 categories that focus on the contribution of individuals, projects, organisations and technologies that have excelled in the use, development and deployment of IT in the past 12 months.

Last year, the Awards attracted over 300 entries and saw both large and small organisations picking up awards in recognition of their contribution to the profession. Winners included Network Rail, The LateRooms Group, Deutsche Bank (Horizon) and The Met Office & PA Consulting Group amongst others.

Stuart Sumner, Editor of Computing, says: "I am delighted that Computing is involved in these prestigious, rigorously judged awards with BCS. Those who win an Award are truly at the top of their game and this recognition can help gain new contracts and customers, attract media attention and help to attract and retain staff."

Entry is via an online application process and initial judging will take place in August. In September, finalists will be invited to give presentations or an interview with an expert panel of judges drawn from across the industry. The winners will be announced at a gala evening event at the Battersea Park Events Arena, London on November 13.
