Jablite has already achieved an energy consumption level that beats the 2020 targets set by the Environment Agency under an industry-wide Climate Change Agreement
Companies who sign the Climate Change Agreement must reduce energy consumption by at least 17% compared to 2008 levels by the end of 2020 (2008 is the 'base' year against which all performance is measured).
In 2013 Jablite achieved a consumption level that was 36% lower than its consumption in 2008.
"This is great news," says Adam Marshall, Jablite HS&E Manager. "But, we still have to keep maintaining a good performance year on year to make sure that we hit our target in 2020."
Jablite has undertaken a number of measures to achieve this reduction in energy use, Adam explains: "We had energy surveys undertaken on both sites – Howden and Belvedere – and we have invested in a number of actions including insulating boilers and pipes, surveying and fixing leaks, and changing lights to LED equivalents.
In addition to meeting the requirements of the Climate Change Agreement Jablite is working on, and seeing performance improvements in product delivery and waste disposal; all as part of an ongoing commitment to improve sustainability standards in all its processes.
