Primary Care Trusts are in a position to expand the policy of any qualified provider (AQP) to 39 service areas by the end of this month, GP online is reporting

GP online revealed last month that the DH is due to step up its AQP policy this autumn, by allowing 39 service areas in England to be provided through AQP. These areas are envisaged to be finalised by the end of this month.

The rollout of AQP started last April after the DH identified eight community and mental health services that could be provided under the policy. Under AQP providers needs to be approved by a PCT to go onto a list of providers from which patients are given a choice.
