PCS Union is urging members, and their families and friends, to support demonstrations called to coincide with the ruling coalition's party conferences

Protestors will be calling for an end to the cuts and investment in jobs at Trade Union Congress-backed events in Birmingham and Manchester.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka, who is due to address rallies at both demonstrations, said: “It is important that we hound Conservative and Liberal Democrat politicians with the message that there is an alternative to their recipe of cuts and misery.

“I urge the hundreds of thousands of trades unionists who supported the march for the alternative in March, and the strike for the alternative in June, to make every effort to attend the demos in Birmingham and Manchester.”

The march against the Liberal Democrats is in Birmingham on Sunday 18 September. The march against the Conservatives is in Manchester on Sunday 2 October.

Both events should start at noon in the city centres. Precise routes are still being negotiated with the police.

Buses to the Manchester event are being arranged from around the country.

PCS members who would like to organise transport should talk to their regional office.
