Jim Murphy MP, Labour's Shadow Defence Secretary, in response to the the Duke of Westminster's comments that army reservists are suffering 'outrageous' discrimination from 'despicable' British employers, said..

"This should be a worrying wake-up call.

"We support the expansion and reform of the Reservists but Ministers are failing to properly plan or prepare.  It is vital that employers are made aware of the skills Reservists and veterans can bring to the workplace and are incentivised to hire them.

"Labour has been campaigning to end discrimination against the Service community and this highlights why action is necessary.

"It is right the TA is modernised and we would support a name-change, but Ministers must go further to create a change in culture to increase their support."
