Margaret Curran MP, Labour's Shadow Scottish Secretary, commenting ahead of today's House of Commons debate passing powers to the Scottish Parliament allowing for a referendum on Scottish independence, said:

"Today marks another significant day as Scotland prepares for the referendum in 2014. The Order that we will debate today means that the referendum will be made in Scotland, by the Scottish Parliament, and will settle once and for all the question of Scotland's membership of the Union.

"The choice before the Scottish people is stark: whether to leave the United Kingdom or continue, in a partnership of equals, in a union with England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Labour is the party of devolution and we will continue to press the case that we are better together in the United Kingdom, with a strong Scottish Parliament."
