The Falkland Islanders have an established right to self-determination as enshrined in the UN charter - Douglas Alexander

Douglas Alexander MP, Labour's Shadow Foreign Secretary, said:

"The Falkland Islanders have an established right to self-determination as enshrined in the UN charter and it is right that Britain continues to defend this right.

"Newspaper adverts do not and will not alter the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands. The voice of the Islanders cannot be ignored or denied in this debate and for that reason we fully support last year's decision for the Falkland Islanders to hold a referendum on the issue."
