TOPIC: New Born Screening

New Born Screening #1

The Lyley Jones Society has been working closely with the New Born Screening Programme for hearing impairment 0-5 years. The New Born Screening programme has been running nationally from April 2006. Most infants that are diagnosed with hearing loss go without the early intervention that is needed within the first 24 months of life. What is the use of New Born Screening without early interention. An infant needs this early intervention within the golden window of opportunity regarding neuroplascitity, which is when the brain is being mapped and programmed for spoken language. Use it or lose it. For a hearing impaired infant to acquire spoken language equal to their hearing peers, early intervention is a must.
