Rachel Reeves MP, Labour’s Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, responding to this afternoon’s House of Commons vote on the ‘granny tax’, said....

“It is very disappointing that Tory and Lib Dem MPs failed to stand up for pensioners in their constituencies and voted to push through the granny tax.

“This out of touch Government is giving a £3 billion tax cut to the richest people in the country, while pensioners who have worked hard all their lives will lose up to £323 next year. That is why we will continue to campaign against an unfair and botched Budget which will make millions of people on middle and low incomes pay more so millionaires can pay less.”
