Andrew Gwynne MP, Labour's Shadow Health Minister, following the publication of today's Health Select Committee report on the Care Quality Commission, said:

"The sight of persistent problems at the care regulator will unnerve patients. The Government is inflicting spending and staffing cuts on the NHS and social care - patients are relying on a strong voice more than ever.

"The Care Quality Commission now has the right leadership and needs the support of Ministers to make the necessary changes.

"Patients will have confidence in the regulator if rigorous inspections succeed in rooting out hospital and care home failings – patients deserve better."
