The Conservative-chaired Health Select Committee is expected to deliver a damning verdict this week on the Government's NHS reorganisation plans
It is reported that the Committee will criticise the Tory-led Government for running huge risks with the NHS by launching the biggest-ever top-down re-organisation at a time of unprecedented financial challenge.
MPs warn that the distraction caused by the reorganisation could lead to the NHS failing to meet the £20bn efficiency savings challenge.Labour today repeats its call on the Government to publish the NHS risk register, as ordered by the Information Commissioner in November.
Andy Burnham MP, Labour's Shadow Health Secretary, said:
"This report is a damning indictment of the Government's mishandling of the NHS. Andrew Lansley is not just losing the confidence of doctors, nurses and midwives but also senior MPs on his own side.
"The Prime Minister made a monumental mistake when he allowed Lansley to break the Coalition Agreement and re-organise the NHS at a time of unprecedented financial challenge.
"The Committee is right to warn of the dangers to the NHS arising from this disastrous decision. The NHS is drifting and the loss of grip at local level is leading to random rationing and cuts to crucial services. With thousands of nursing posts being lost and the army being sent in to run A&E;, this is an NHS showing increasing signs of distress.
"It is simply unforgivable to waste £3.45 billion on back-office restructuring when nurses are being given P45s and the NHS needs every penny it can get to maintain standards of patient care.
"People have a right to know the precise nature and scale of the risks the Government is running with patient care. Ministers cannot continue to dig in and keep this information secret. After the Committee's worrying report, it is essential that the Government complies with the Information Commissioner's ruling and releases the full NHS risk register.
"It is time for David Cameron to listen to what doctors, nurses and now his own senior MPs are saying and call a halt to this reckless re-organisation."
