The House of Lords will today be debating the Health and Social Care Bill again as it passes through Committee stage

It is expected that an amendment tabled by Baroness Audrey Emerton will be covered during the debate. The RCN has worked closely with Baroness Emerton in forming the amendment and gaining support for it with other peers.

The amendment would place a duty on the NHS Commissioning Board to mandate staffing levels for registered nurses and non-registered support workers. It would also provide a mandated ratio for registered nurses and the number of patients they should have responsibility to care for.
