TOPIC: Do we need Accreditation and/or Qualifications for Carbon Footprint Accounting and Management?

Do we need Accreditation and/or Qualifications for Carbon Footprint Accounting and Management? 1 year, 5 months ago #1

Carbon footprint accounting is set to become big business in 2013 as FTSE100 companies are required to report their emissions. Government is imposing ever more requirement on public bodies to account for, and consider, carbon management. But how do we ensure standards are set and maintained so that all stakeholders can rely on the quality of the data reported? Is it time for an accreditation body to set minimum qualifications for those who will work in the carbon footprint management sector?

The launch last year of the Responsible Business Standard is already encouraging SME's to re-assess their social responsibility and environmental management practices with best practices. This standard offers low-cost entry to an independent onsite review. The outcome is a comprehensive report supporting business continuity and community engagement. The question is not "Do we need accreditation?" It is How can we better use what we have already?
