Flooring - a simple antibacterial solution?

I am passing on a message found in Optimum Nutrition Autumn 2011 - from an article by Durwin Banks:
"Incidentally, linoleum floor covering is manufactured using linseed oil and has antibacterial qualities, making this a useful product in hospitals; as time goes by, however, this has been largely replaced by PVC, and one must wonder if this is a reason for more infection control problems. Linoleum is also said to be the only floor covering that does not produce allergic reactions, another reason to use it in hospitals. Interestingly as late as the Falklands War in 1982, NATO was removing PVC from ships and other establishments because of the fire risk and replacing it with linoleum, which can last 20-30 years."
