Meurig Raymond has urged the Defra Secretary of State Caroline Spelman to push for a rethink on capital allowances

Speaking at the Oxford Farming Conference this morning, the NFU Deputy President thanked Mrs Spelman for the “courageous announcement before Christmas” on bovine TB.

But he said that his conversations with farmers during the past two days had highlighted a pressing need to encourage investment – a need poorly serviced by a cut in capital allowances from £100,000 to £25,000, due in April of this year.

Mrs Spelman pledged to raise the matter with Chancellor George Osborne
