Stephen Twigg MP, Labour's Shadow Education Secretary, commenting on reports on the secondary national curriculum said

"Michael Gove is proposing a narrow, out-of-date curriculum which will weaken standards in our schools and take us backwards.

"We need a forward-looking and rigorous curriculum that will prepare all young people for the challenges of the modern economy.

"The real test will be whether Michael Gove's curriculum is focused on raising standards and if it includes the skills that universities and employers are calling for. These plans fail that test."
