Winter distribution plans 'in place at online retailers'

Online retailers have made provisions to protect their distribution operations in the event of severe winter weather conditions

This is the claim made in a new report by the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG), which has put together advice to ensure there are no problems with deliveries reaching customers this year.

Its recommendations to consumers include order early, read and select delivery options carefully, consider using click and collect options and track the progress of orders.

Last winter saw widespread disruption to transport operations around the UK as a result of heavy snowfalls and ice.

Commenting on this year's preparations, Andrew Starkey, IMRG head of e-Logistics, stated: "All carriers and retailers are putting contingency plans in place so we are confident that we are in an excellent position to deal with any disruption."

This week has seen strong winds and rain strike parts of northern England and Scotland in particular, with further cold weather predicted
