The National Home Improvement Council has raised concerns regarding home energy efficiency.
According to Andrew Leech, director of the council, many householders are more concerned with home improvements that focus on enhancing a property's appearance as opposed to its energy efficiency.
He said:
"The private householder is a bit reluctant to do anything substantial on the house so far as energy efficiency is concerned.
"They are more interested in modern bathrooms and modern kitchens, but they don't bear in mind the energy efficiency aspect. Any incentive which makes them think about making their homes more efficient is very worthwhile."
Mr Leech made the comments after the Conservative party announced that it was planning to launch home energy efficiency improvement grants should it be elected into power at the next general election.
Under the scheme, individual properties would benefit from home improvements of up to £6,500.
The money used to fund the initiative would be repaid using the money saved from reduced energy bills.
